Atom Body Checking

The Hockey Canada Board of Directors made a decision at the November 24-25, 2007 Hockey Canada Semi-Annual Meeting that Body Checking will not be allowed in Minor Hockey until the Pee Wee age division (11 - 12) beginning in the 2008/09 Hockey Season.

The Ontario Hockey Federation and the Saskatchewan Hockey Association have conducted pilot projects on the effects of Body Checking at the Atom Age Division. Ontario's study concluded that Body Checking was not a safety issue at the Atom Level. Saskatchewan's research study is currently in the fourth year of a five year project and therefore there have been no conclusions on the effect that can be made to date.
