Re: Flu Season

Yorkton Schools have been experiencing an unusually high number of student absences due to the “Flu” or “Influenza-like” illnesses. As a hockey community there are precautions we can take to help stop the spread of the flu. Common flu symptoms include:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Body aches
  • Headache
  • Chills and fatigue

All Coaches/Managers and Parents should be taking the following precautions:
Please keep players at home when they are ill

  • Drink plenty of liquids
  • Get lots of rest
  • Report any illness
  • Wash hands regularly
  • Use a hand sanitizer regularly
  • Use your own water bottle
  • Do not take your gloves off to shake hands
  • Use respiratory etiquette (sneeze and cough into your sleeve)
  • Routine cleaning of hockey equipment
  • Do not share towels

Please feel free to visit both of the following websites for more information.

It is important that all Yorkton Minor Hockey Coaches, Managers, Players and Families do what they can to help prevent the flu from spreading. It has been noted that there are some kids that have been missing school because they are sick, yet these kids are coming to hockey games and practices. Hockey is important to all of us and we need people to realize that when they are sick they need to stay at home and get healthy.

Be well, have fun and take care,
Kelly
